Angelica & Joshua’s Bakersfield Love Story

Angelica & Joshua’s

Bakersfield Love Story

1)   Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why?
-We first met July 4, 2011 at a friend’s BBQ. He was a mutual friend. That was the first day we had ever seen each other. Josh was quiet, but witty and I thought he was funny. We didn’t talk much. It was during the summer time so our friends would go bowling or to the movies and we would go too. We started talking soon after that. August 16, 2011 was our first date. We went to Rosemarie’s and then to the movies. He was really nervous and I thought it was funny.

2) When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?, etc.
A- I knew he was the one when we talked and he told me everything about school and his family and church. I felt like we both had the same views on everything and one day when we were just hanging out he told me he was in love with me. I was extremely happy to hear that because I felt the same way I was just too scared to say so. I also liked his sense of humor and the fact that I could tell him anything and I could be myself around him.
J- I knew Angelica was special when I saw that our views on family and faith were nearly identical. The way she smiles, the way she laughs, and how selfless she really is, I just knew she was the one. I always thought when married couples said “when you know, you know” was just a copout reason people would say so they wouldn’t have to explain their selves or because they themselves didn’t know why they got married but I fully understand now that neither is the case. Everything little thing about Angelica gives me this feeling inside that is unexplainable, and I just know that she is the one I want to spend the rest of my life in eternity with.

3) Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning?, how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?)
A – I definitely did NOT see it coming. I always brought it up as sort of a joke but nothing serious. We both like the San Francisco Giants, actually I like the Giants, he LOVES them. We were planning on going to watch one of their games during July. On July 6th my sister and her husband drove up north with us to go to their first baseball game so I was pretty excited about that. The next day, Sunday, July 7th, we went to the stadium. Josh wanted to take a picture in which you could see the view of the entire stadium and the bay behind him. He asked me to take a picture with him (my brother in law and sister were taking pictures of us) and they said he had to tie his shoe. All I know is that he was on one knee and told me he loved me and I made him very happy. It didn’t hit me that he was proposing to me until I saw the ring, that’s when I started crying because I couldn’t believe it was real. It was pretty awesome.
J- I had been planning to propose for a long time. I wanted to do it around our anniversary of when we first met, July 4th. We both like the San Francisco Giants, and we both love the city. I knew she would be totally surprised and not expect me to ask her to marry me. I had this date and setting planned about 8 months out.  I was extremely nervous, and as the date grew closer it got worse. I was so nervous that I couldn’t tell anyone until the last minute, which actually worked in my favor. I asked my parents first, they approved right away. Due to a language barrier I would need a translator to ask her parents, so I asked her older sister Marili to help me. I was most nervous of the conversation I would have with Angelicas parents, but after the fact, it couldn’t have gone better. With their approval the nerves disappeared. Phew! Marili and her husband were so excited, they decided to join us for the trip and ultimately take pictures of the whole proposal. The whole day was very casual, we ate donuts in the morning, then we went to the Golden Gate Bridge and did a little sightseeing before the game. About an hour before the game we decided to head to the stadium, and before I knew it, it was time for IT to happen. I knew the perfect spot just outside the stadium, I had Marili snap a few pictures of Angelica and I. I then said, “ Oh! I need to tie my shoe…” and that’s when the nerves all of a sudden came back. My hands started shaking just a bad as they did on our first date. She said yes, and now I couldn’t be more excited. As Angelica said, it was pretty awesome.

4) Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
A – I love Josh’s personality. The way he is and treats me. The little things like opening the car door for me all the time, buying cards or flowers just because, laughing at my joke s even when I know it’s not funny. He doesn’t do this to try to impress me, I feel like he does it because it’s him. Everything he does shows me how much he really cares and loves me.
J-  There is so much I love about Angelica, if I had to chose one though, it would be her selflessness. She will go out of her way to help anyone. She could be starving, having not eaten all day, about to eat the burrito she was craving, and if someone came by and said they were hungry she would wrap the whole burrito up and give it to them. That’s a true story. If there is anything anyone needs, she goes out of her way to help, no matter how inconvenient it may be. That’s why I do the things I do for her, she deserves more than anything I could give her so I try to give her everything I can.

5) If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does.
A – It’s not silly, it’s more impressive in a way, but Josh will wake up at 4 or 5 am just to watch a Manchester United game. He also has to shower before every game and for some reason he has a specific way he puts on his socks on game day. It’s weird. I’ve never met someone that does that.

6) Besides getting married - what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your
wedding day?
A – Having our first dance. I’ve never really danced before because I don’t like dancing but being able to share that with josh is something that I’m nervous, but extremely excited about.
J – Definitely the first dance. It will be really special, and to hear our introduction. That is what I’m most excited for.
7) What’s your favorite trend for weddings right now?
My favorite trend for weddings is that garden vintage theme, masson jars, lace, and string lights.

8)  What inspired your décor or theme?
I’ve always liked the lace romantic theme and that’s what we are having. I want our wedding to have our personalities in it. I like comfort and elegance combined.  Josh likes comfort and simple.

9)  What’s one thing you wish you would have known earlier in regards to planning?
Everything. It is stressful and we still have more than a year to go!:)
